St John Ambulance is calling for runners, and those inspired by last weekend’s TSC London Marathon, to apply for the remaining charity places for a chance to run in the iconic race in April 2023.
Over 350,000 people entered the official ballot for the 2022 race, and April’s 2023 race is expected to be equally as popular.
St John has limited charity places, which offer the opportunity to run while fundraising for the charity who is at the forefront helping communities in times of need.
Sharon Brewster, from Oxfordshire, who ran London Marathon for St John last weekend said: “Running for St John has been a truly amazing experience.
"I'd encourage anyone thinking about raising funds for St John to commit to the training, enjoy the journey, and go for the London Marathon - it's the experience of a lifetime!"
Those running for St John are asked to pay a £100 registration fee and raise a minimum of £2,000 to help towards its lifesaving work.
Fabia Barbosa, Fundraising Officer for challenge events at St John, said: “Our charity relies on donations to help support the incredible work of our volunteers in communities every day – at events, through our youth programmes, in ambulances, and even delivering vital Covid vaccines to the elderly and vulnerable.
“Running an iconic race like the London Marathon is an incredible achievement but knowing you’ve done it for a charity like St John, who gives so much back to communities, makes crossing that finishing line even better.”
The charity supports all its runners throughout their training programme, offering:
-
Professional training support
-
Access to the official Fundraising Events Facebook group where runners can chat to fellow runners
-
Dedicated events team to support runners with training and fundraising throughout their journey.
-
St John Ambulance official running vest
-
Cheers of support along the route from dedicated cheer points – as well as over 1,400 volunteers who will be proving first aid on the day
-
Post-race reception with massages, refreshments and goody bags to celebrate the achievement
-
An information and training day to help runners prepare for the race.
