Partnership Organisations

With over 130 years of delivering first aid in the community, St John Ambulance is widely renowned as the nation’s leading first aid charity. However we acknowledge that in order to reach our strategic goal of every young person understanding basic first aid, we need to collaborate with the subject matter specialists in our communities and that’s your organisation!

Your organisation fully comprehends the needs of the young people engaged in your service, so by collectivising each of our strengths and expertise we can make a much bigger impact on the young people in our communities who are at risk of falling through the net, at the same time creating a more first aid sustainable, safer society.

Who we are working with

We are keen to work with organisations across the statutory and voluntary sectors who are dedicated to supporting young people from diverse backgrounds. We are particularly keen to engage with young people 4 beneficiary groups: Young carers, young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), care experienced young people and those who are at risk of or exposed to street violence.

We are committed to improving the opportunities and outcomes for more young people and recognise the key role that many organisations play in providing resources and support to those who face systemic barriers such as poverty, discrimination, reduced access to education and limited opportunity to participate in their community. St John Ambulance is keen to work with these organisations to help them provide the mentorship, training and education opporunities that will empower young people to succeed. We are proud to work with stakeholders from across sectors who share our passion for promoting advocacy, inclusion and positive change in the lives of young people from underserved communities.

Street first aid - session overview

Based around a narrative, our interactive sessions teach students how to deal with an emergency first aid situation.

Our facilitators will help to build students’ confidence by teaching them simple, easy-to-remember first aid skills, such as:

  • responding to a catastrophic bleed
  • dealing with alcohol or drug intoxication
  • performing a primary survey and CPR
  • recognising the signs of deteriorating mental health after dealing with a first aid incident.

Sessions can be 60, 90, or 120 minutes long.

When and where are the sessions?

The Young Responder Programme is designed to be relevant to the communities in which it is delivered so all sessions will take place in a community location provided by the partner organisation that is suitable for the young people. All equipment for the sessions will be provided by St John Ambulance, but we will require ample space to deliver to groups of 8 - 12 young people. The St John Ambulance Facilitator will require at least 15 minutes before a session begins and 15 minutes at the end of a session to set up and pack away equipment.
