As a charity, face-to-face fundraising is so important to St John Ambulance. Regular donations mean we can plan more for the future, and we have recruited more than 350,000 supporters by speaking to people in person. We continue to increase awareness of first aid and support for our work, helping us save more lives.

All our face-to-face fundraisers are paid employees of professional fundraising agencies. This is one of the efficient and cost-effective ways that we can raise funds to support us. For every 5000 new supporters we recruit, we estimate we raise at least £1,911,650 over 10 years. With our agreed fundraising fee, every £1 invested returns more than £3 back

For over 25 years, we have been fundraising door-to-door with Wesser, an established, family run business that has raised over £62 million from our loyal supporters. Wesser are subject to regular audits to ensure the highest level of service.

In 2022, we also partnered with Trinity Group, Ireland’s largest face-to-face fundraising supplier that have now expanded into the UK. See if you can see a familiar face amongst our current representatives.

In 2023, Green Light Sites began assisting us with event and site bookings. They also complete audits and mystery shops with our fundraising teams, giving us oversight for quality control, and helping us identify issues and opportunities.

St John Ambulance is registered with the Fundraising Regulator and our face-to-face activities adhere to the Fundraising Code of Practice. For more information, read our Donations and Fundraising FAQs.

How to recognise us

Although our door-to-door fundraisers are employed by agencies, they all wear a St John Ambulance branded t-shirt, body warmer or coat, and carry a professional ID badge with all legally-required details.

Our fundraisers only work between the hours of 9:00am and 8:30pm, Monday to Saturday. When in your area, we'll knock on your door and talk to you about our work and if you'll consider supporting us by giving a regular donation by direct debit. We'll never ask for a cash donation.
