Training room requirements

For all courses

  • The room should be private & free from distractions.
  • There should be at least 1 chair available per delegate and something for them to lean on when writing.
  • All furniture must be movable and not impact the course.
  • There should be toilet facilities, adequate ventilation, and an appropriate temperature for the season.
  • The venue must comply with the 2010 Equality Act.
  • The venue should be open to the trainer 30 minutes before the course starts.
  • The venue should be a public building or a school. We are not able to train at a residential address such as a house or flat.

Parking & unloading

There should be parking available for the trainer to use for the duration of the course, and space to safely unload equipment. If parking is not available, a loading bay or other suitable space must be available for the trainer to unload equipment. If you are not able to provide either of these, please let us know.

If the course is taking place inside London (the M25), the trainer will usually arrive by public transport and will not require parking. Unloading space is still required as we will deliver the course materials the working day before the course and collect the working day after.

Practical First Aid courses

First-aid courses with practical elements (such as CPR) should meet the requirements for all courses, as well as:

  •  There should be enough floor space in the room for delegates to complete practical tasks such as recovery position, we advise this should be at least the size of a double bed per 2 delegates (approx.190cm x 135cm).
  • The floor should be carpeted or have school gym-style mats available to use.

Fire Marshal courses

Fire Marshal courses should meet the requirements for all courses, as well as:

  • There should be a space outside (must be on your private premises) at least the size of 2 car parking spaces for delegates to practice with fire extinguishers.
    • If there is no suitable space, the course can still run, but the trainer will only be able to demonstrate how extinguishers are used.

Mental Health First Aid courses (Level 2 & Level 3)

Mental Health First Aid courses should meet the requirements for all courses, as well as:

  • Learners must sit a minimum of 1.5m apart and must not be able to overlook the work of other learners.
  • Tables or a suitable item to lean on when writing must be provided.
  • The assessment room location must be conducive to taking a controlled assessment and be free from noise and disturbance.
  • Posters will be required to be displayed inside and outside of the assessment room which the trainer will provide.

Delegate requirements

Delegates are advised to wear appropriate, comfortable clothing. Practical first aid training will include activities such as kneeling over casualties and acting as the casualty during the course.

Delegates should arrive at least 15 minutes before the course starts and be aware that if they arrive late for a course, or are absent for any session, we reserve the right to refuse to accept them for training.
